A ketone ester drink developed by an Oxford University start-up for the US Army has shown benefits to elite endurance athletes by unlocking “greater human metabolic potential.”

The profile of the sweetener has been boosted this month with the launch of STATE, a Danish sports drink fronted by Premier League football player Christian Eriksen.

Cornelius Nordic has secured distribution rights for Tereos in a Scandinavian partnership that will target the Danish and Swedish markets for ingredients such as starches, glucose syrups and polyols.

Sports nutrition expert: “...ketones delivered from a beverage for performance enhancement would likely only be beneficial where athletes are already pre-adapted to using ketones as a fuel (low carb dieters).”
