Sweetener from Palmyra palm nectar
London-based Conscious Food Ltd brought this product to Baltimore for its ‘exclusive world launch.’ SugaVida is a sweetener dervied from palmyra palm trees grown in southeastern India. The raw material, known as ‘Palmyra Jaggery,’ is the dried nectar of the tree’s flowers. The rendered sweetner is twice as sweet as sugar but only half the calories and is also rich in vitamin B12 and 14 other vitamins and minerals. One tablespoon provides 36% of the RDA of B12 and 210% of the RDA of vitamin B6. The ingredient has been a mainstay of Ayurvedic prepartions for centuries where it is used as a sweetener as well as for its own medicinal properties, which include digestive balance and as a sleep aid, according to founder Kristina Locke.
