New York Label & Box Co. expands to become ‘a vehicle for smart packaging’
Today the firm has expanded into brand protection and anti-counterfeiting bringing technologies together to protect clients products from piracy with a multi layered strategy.
Embedded in a label
Speaking to Chris Freddo, vice president, New York Label & Box Co. at the AIPIA (Active & Intelligent Industry Packaging Association) Americas Summit in New Jersey this month (June 3,4) he said as the world is moving towards full transparency and accountability of “things” (IoT) it is necessary that products have some sort of unique identifier (UID) and the means to capture that UID to access the data it is associated with it.
An UID can include an overt or covert mark, which can be laser ablated into a product or printed directly onto it or embedded within a chip, or a label.
The technology that is used to produce this UID or mark within the label varies but what’s important is that the label is the perfect vehicle that can be cost-effectively added to almost any product.
“Labels can address manufacturers’ needs and solve their problems in supply-chain, consumer-engagement and brand protection areas, all three of which have a commonality in that they need this UID and can utilize a label to plug into the world of “Smart Packaging”,” he said.
“In our case we are a label company that has the technology to take this smart packaging and put it onto a label so that is it layered for better safety.
“We are partnered with 18 different technology companies. This means on the same label you can have different forms of anti-counterfeiting, track & trace and customer engagement.”
