SIG gives combiSmart screw cap wings
CombiSmart was first launched in 2006. The three part closure system, consisting of a flange, integrated cutting ring and screw cap, was designed to make opening and closing cartons easier and more secure.
SIG has now updated combiSmart with the addition of two wings on the sides of the screw cap. “With the addition of two little ‘wings’ on the sides of the screw cap, combiSmart – compared to other screw caps for small packaging sizes - gives a firmer grip, making it even easier to open, particularly for children and elderly people,” said SIG spokespersonHeike Thevis.
The new combiSmart can be viewed below with all the available colour options: red, blue, light blue, green and cream.
CombiSmart is applied to carton packs with an ACF applicator after the aseptic filling process. For those manufacturers that already have an ACF applicator in operation, a small modification kit is needed to apply the new combiSmart.
The new generation combiSmart screw cap retains the main features of the original. It offers the three-part system that makes it possible to open cartons in one twist without having to first puncture a seal. Within the flange, which is fixed to the carton, is a cutting ring that slices through coated cardboard with a single twist of the screw cap.
Once opened SIG says the closure system also offers even pouring and good re-closure.
People are increasingly eating and drinking on the hop with little time to spare so they need convenient packaging. SIG sees CombiSmart fitting this trend by helping manufacturers offer handy, small-size cartons that are robust, and easily opened and reclosed.
Since launching in 2006 the combiSmart has been used by several dairy and beverage manufacturers. In Germany, SIG said Milch Union Hocheifel and Immergut use the closure on their dairy products.
CombiSmart can also be found on a range of UHT dairy products from Unimilk in Russia and SM Gostyn sells carton packs in Poland with the closures.
The new combiSmart is suitable for combifitSmall 200, 250, 300, 330 and 350 ml and the combiblocCompact 300, 350, 400 and 500 ml.
