Hot on the heels of Pepsi-Cola's announcement that it is to update the labelling of its entire Pepsi range, Coca-Cola has this week unveiled a new package design for its Diet Coke soft drink.

The beverage giant had already announced in August plans to give its Coke Classic a makeover. The relabelling is also expected to be introduced in its other global markets during the course of next year.

Coca-Cola also announced that it now plans to revamp packaging for its complete cola category, including caffeine-free and the recently introduced lemon flavoured varieties. All of the new cola label designs will include a ribbon that has been used for Coke designs in the past. The ribbon for the Diet Coke brand will be silver, the colour traditionally associated with the product.

The relabelling aims to create a greater market impact for the Coca-Cola brand which has seen its market share slipping in recent years. Last year the Coca-Cola brand lost 0.5 per cent of its market share in the US.

In the new year it is expected that Coca-Cola will put the focus back on Coke Classic, with a major advertising campaign already in the works.
