Facebook kicks off UK online booze store

After being linked to reviving once popular confectionery items like the Wispa bar, social networking sites are set to try and revolutionise alcohol buying in the UK.

Despite growing concerns across the European Union over restricting alcohol availability, the Get Them In service was launched last month as a means of allowing Facebook users to purchase alcohol online.

According to Jay Feeney, founder of the system, recipients receive a message to their Facebook, SMS or email accounts allowing them through a voucher to redeem a drink at one of hundreds of shops operated by the First Quench retail group.

A number of beer, wine and spirits brands are available through the system, with a percentage of profits set to be donated to a service for providing counselling to people affected by substance abuse, claims Feeney.
