Blur bassist Alex James has applied for a UK trademark to use the name of mid-90s guitar pop movement ‘Britpop’ for a new drinks brand.

Submitted on October 11, and published for consultation by the UK’s Intellectual Property Office last Friday, James' patent application (he is pictured) covers a wide variety of beverages under Class 32 (beers and non-alcoholic beverages) and Class 33 (alcoholic beverages) UK trademark classes.
