The Brewers Association, which represents small and independent craft brewers in the US, has released its 2017 list of the top 50 craft brewers according to beer sales volume.

It has also published a list of top overall brewing companies in the US, 40 of which are small and independent craft brewing companies.

The Brewers Association defines a craft brewer as one that is small, independent and traditional: with an annual production of 6 million barrels of beer or less; and with less than 25% of the brewery owned or controlled by an alcoholic beverage industry member that is not itself a craft brewer.

Bart Watson, chief economist for the Brewers Association, said:“In an increasingly competitive and mature marketplace, these brewing companies continue to lead and pave the path for small and independent craft brewers.”
