Chili-infused beverage start-up goes back to its roots for bottle redesign
The organic, non-alcoholic drink, infused with chili, comes in two flavors: cranberry, pomegranate and chili; and ginger, lime and chili, and all the ingredients come from Sweden.
China, Dubai, Denmark
The firm recently closed distribution deals to supply the drink in China, Dubai and Denmark.
Thomas Adner, CEO/founder, Caliente, told BeverageDaily, being the only non-alcoholic drink spiked with chili heat, we feel we do stand out, but there’s always room for improvement when it comes to verbal and visual brand communication.
“We’ve changed our color scheme to more earthy colors, to show Caliente is a natural drink, crafted in Sweden,” he said.
“Our new packaging is minimalistic and transparent, since we above all want to present the inside that we are so proud of.
“The new label also communicates more directly what Caliente is than the previous one. Our heritage, the amount of chili heat and the fact that it’s non-alcoholic is now clearer. We like the naked feel.”
Sophisticated non-alcoholic drinks
Caliente has also changed its logo to make it more simple, and displayed a written brand name and hand drawn illustrations.
Talking about the drink, Adner, said some people love it or hate it, but either way the beverage taps into a growing demand for sophisticated non-alcoholic drinks for adults, using capsaicin, which gives chili its heat.
The company launched in March in 2015 after the entrepreneur saw a niche market using spices in drinks after spending time in the Middle East.
“Spices and chillies are being used in a lot of different categories and I thought why not in beverages? When you start experimenting you see it really fits well, it’s a good combination,” he said at the time.
The award-winning beverage has been recognized by 'Best Adult Premium Drink' at the World Beverage Innovation Awards 2015 and “Best New Organic Drink” at the Nordic Organic Awards.
