Corrugated boxes and fitments
Beacon Packaging, a trading division of Miramar Investments based in Hampshire, UK, is a large independent converter of board into corrugated boxes and fitments.
Clive Bowers, CEO, Smurfit Kappa corrugated UK, said the culture of the two companies is aligned with Smurfit Kappa.
“They have built excellent businesses in selected customer and product sectors which will add to our existing strengths,” he said.
Inspirepac has invested strongly over the past few years to build up its corrugated packaging business with contract packing services.
“We have enjoyed five fantastic years as part of the Logson Group, a period that has seen significant growth and exceptional performance,” said Chris Marples, CEO, Inspirepac, who will continue to lead the business.
Combined strengths
“Smurfit Kappa is the natural home for our next phase of development, our culture is closely aligned to their philosophy and I am excited by the opportunities our combined strengths can bring to our customers.”
Alex Kelly, CEO, Logson Group, said it will now focus on strengthening its position within its chosen market sectors and has committed to £15m of investment in 2015.
“This will deliver a productive sheet feeding site at Preston as well as two sites within Boxes and Packaging,” said Kelly.
“Following on from our purchase of Scott Packaging Glasgow, we remain highly acquisitive and hope to make a positive announcement in this respect in the near future.”
Beacon Packaging has a customer base in Greater London, the Home Counties, Southern Midlands, M4 corridor and South Coast.
FoodProductionDaily has contacted Smurfit Kappa for further comment about the acquisitions and is awaiting a response.
