Caffè Nero has partnered with sports nutrition brand Myprotein to launch two protein-based iced drinks across its UK stores.
The Iced Vanilla Protein Matcha Latte and Iced Vanilla Protein Latte contain 24g and 25g of protein, respectively, and fewer than 160 calories each, according to the companies.
The drinks combine skimmed milk and sugar-free vanilla flavouring with either matcha or Caffè Nero’s Classico coffee blend, alongside Myprotein protein powder. They will be hand-crafted by baristas across more than 600 UK stores.
The launch builds on the growth of iced drinks at Caffè Nero, which now account for 14.7% of its total drinks sales, up from 8.1% five years ago. Sales of iced drinks at the coffee chain grew by 52% in its last financial year compared with the previous year.
Neil Mistry, CEO of THG Nutrition, Myprotein’s parent company, said: “Protein has moved from the gym bag into everyday life, and coffee is the natural next step.
“Protein lattes have already taken off in the US, and we know the appetite is here too: our customers already add protein to their coffee at home.”
Lysa Hardy, CEO of Caffè Nero UK, said the drinks respond to growing customer demand for high-protein options.
“The Iced Vanilla Protein Matcha Latte and the Iced Vanilla Protein Latte are delicious, new additions to our menu and respond to growing customer demand for high-protein drinks. They reflect our commitment to innovation and to delivering premium drinks to customers.”
The launch is the latest move by Myprotein to expand beyond its core sports nutrition market into retail and foodservice. Recent launches include a whey protein milkshake inspired by Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed doughnut, sold through Boots, and protein powders featuring SNICKERS, MARS and Bounty, developed through a licensing partnership with Mars Wrigley.
The two drinks are the first products under the Caffè Nero partnership, with further recipes expected to follow in January.
