UK drinks maker Framptons acquired by Swedish investors

Swedish investment firm Profura Group has announced the acquisition of plant-based drinks manufacturer Framptons.

The Gothenburg-based company completed the deal on 29 November 2023, and has now confirmed that Framptons will be owned by Provator, a subsidiary of Profura Group.

Provator specialises in providing the knowledge, support and financial stability that will provide a platform for the future growth and expansion of Framptons.

Founded in 1898 and based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, the plant-based drinks producer has a turnover of £563m, employs 1,300 members of staff and possesses 45 active business units. It manufactures beverages made with oats, coconut, soya, chickpeas, peas, hemp, grains and pulses in a range of formats.

Profura Group owns a number of firms within the food sector, with its food industry division boasting a turnover of £70m and a £4.5m EBITDA.

Profura appoints new board of directors

Senior figures at Framptons Ian Harvey, Will Martin and Allan Staples have now left their roles with the business, but have moved into advisory positions. The newly formed board of directors comprises members from both Profura Group and Framptons and is dedicated to steering the company towards a bright future.

Bernt Ivarsson, owner of the Profura Group, described the acquisition of Framptons as a “significant milestone​” for the business.

With our strong financial foundation and vast industry experience, we are well-positioned to rejuvenate Framptons, aligning it with our vision of sustainable and innovative growth​,” Ivarsson added.

In a statement confirming the purchase of Framptons, Profura Group said that it recognises the “invaluable contribution of Framptons' employees​” and that it is committed to building on the legacy that the brand has built. It continued, stating that it would ensure that the brand has a “continued presence as a community pillar and an employer of choice in the future​”.

In other news, Extons Foods, a leading supplier of grated, block and continental cheese has unveiled its new facility in Greater Manchester.
