Klöckner Pentaplast (KP) plans to launch its ClearFloat floatable film in North America in 2020.

The shrink label film, part of KP’s Pentalabel line, has already been launched across Europe with plans for a soft launch in North America next year and to be commercially available for beverages, dairy and food in 2020.

Recycling guidelines

It also meets recycling guidelines set by the Association of Postconsumer Plastics Recyclers and the European PET (polyethylene terephthalate) Bottle Platform (EPBP).

This product addresses the issue with some traditional shrink sleeves which have a specific gravity of over 1g and in recycling systems the recycler is not able to separate PET from the PETG labels (PETG is of the same chemical composition as PET but with the addition of glycol),” said Sunder Rajan, global product manager, Labels, Klockner Pentaplast USA.

With ClearFloat the label falls away from the PET container so you can recover the PET flakes and get high value from it.

"We already launched it in Europe, it was introduced in small samples in the North American market and hopefully we will be fully commercial in the market by 2020.”

Labelexpo Americas

KP will also be presenting eklipse, launched in 2016, at Labelexpo Americas in Chicago (September 25-27, 2018) and Pack Expo Las Vegas (September 23-25, 2019).

Rajan said eklipse is its first shrink film with built-in light blocking capabilities and it has seen an increase in demand for this product since its launch two years ago.

An area of interest for us is UV light and eklipse can be applied on any machine,” he added.

KP has three P&L (packaging and labeling) management structure: pharmaceutical; F&B and specialities. In 2017 the company acquired Linpac.
