Nestlé has opened its Nescafé Coffee Center in Yunnan, China, which will focus on research and development as well as providing training opportunities.

In association with the College of Tropical Crops at Yunnan Agricultural University, the center will provide training for farmers, agronomists and industry professionals.

The Nescafé Coffee Centre covers 30,000 square meters, divided into two main parts. The first part is a training centre and green coffee bean laboratory; and the second is a quality control lab and warehousing facility.

With coffee output set to keep growing, the center will set purchasing and testing criteria on international standards.

John Cheung, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé China, said: “The center builds a larger platform for cooperation, exchange and sharing with research institutions and the whole industry.”

The Nescafé Coffee Center is located in Yunnan province, in the city of Puer, which is known as the ‘coffee capital of China.’ It will help continue to build the industry in the future, says Nestlé.

Initiated in 2010, the Nescafé Plan is investing in coffee projects around the world. The Nescafé Coffee Centre in Yunnan is one part of this strategy.
