Dematic, which works with Cadbury Schweppes, Nestlè Australia, and JTM Food Group, is considering plans to close its manufacturing plant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US, with up to 300 job losses.

The company said the announcement comes as it focuses on 'operating scaled production facilities' across the globe to remain cost competitive.

The Grand Rapids facility manufactures conveyor and sortation equipment.

If Dematic closes the factory, most production activities will be transferred to its facility in Monterrey, Mexico over a six to nine month period, beginning in early 2016 and concluding in September, 2016.

If Dematic decides to relocate, its leadership is dedicated to working through the transition with affected employees, including retaining as many employees as possible,” the company said in a statement.

The 300 jobs affected include positions in fabrication, assembly, warehouse, and plant administration. It does not include sales, engineering, solution development and customer service.
