Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has signed a €31m loan agreement with BillerudKorsnäs to fund its research and development (R&D) programme in 2015-2019.

The seven-year-maturity loan will assist the company in developing sustainable and more energy-efficient material technologies that will improve the competitiveness of paper and board packaging in comparison to traditional products that use plastic and aluminium foil.

BillerudKorsnäs is a Swedish paper and packaging manufacturer headquartered in Solna. Established in 2012, the company employs approximately 4,300 employees and runs eight production units with sales offices in 10 countries.

NIB is an international financial institution owned by eight member countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

The Bank finances private and public projects in and outside the member countries.
