‘Traditional concepts combined with innovation and creativity:’ Brau Beviale kicks off today
The show has plenty on the agenda for brewers, calling itself ‘the home of craft brewers.’ However, the event also welcomes guests from sectors such as soft drinks, juices, mineral water and milk products.
“We have the trend theme of ‘culture of craft brewing’: craft beer, craft spirits and craft beverage in general, which refers to the global trend,” Andrea Kalrait, exhibition director, Brau Beviale, told BeverageDaily.com.
“[We see] traditional concepts combined with innovation and creativity.”
Spirit and vitality of the beverage industry
The whole beverage process – from raw materials to technology, and logistics to marketing, is covered by the three day event in Germany this week.
In 2014 the show hosted 1,128 exhibitors and 37,200 trade visitors (40% of whom were international) and is expecting similar numbers this year. Kalrait says the show reflects the ‘spirit and vitality of the beverage industry of today.’
One of the show’s strengths is the platform it gives for big multinational companies and start-up brands to meet and share ideas, said Kalrait.
“Innovations are coming from both sides, and are our exhibitors as well as visitors. The smaller companies are surely more into finding special innovations because their business strongly depends on it.
“But there are innovations which are meeting the needs of the markets coming from both global players and smaller companies. So it’s good and important to have them all here to get in contact with each other. That’s the platform we are providing.
“The entire focus of the show, once again, is on the process chain of beverages production: high-quality raw materials, high-performance technologies, efficient logistics solutions as well as sparkling marketing ideas.

"And it’s the home to the beverage industry’s big family reunion. To attend this show is not mandatory to its exhibitors or visitors, in contrary: Everybody is looking forward to this show and to meeting friends and new contacts again.”
But for those who attend Brau Beviale time after time, what’s new at this year’s show?
“The concept of the Craft Beer Corner has been elaborated,” said Kalrait. “There are guided tastings by sommeliers at five theme bars: hops, malt, yeast, special and the perfect glass. Furthermore we have tastings of craft spirits and of mineral water as well.
“There is a pavilion for sustainable water management in the beverage industry. There are a lot of lectures, discussions, workshops in the Forum BrauBeviale. Of course, we are presenting the European Beer Star Award with Private Brauereien Bayern and lead the tasting of the Consumers’ Favourite.
“Then there is BeerExperience Nuremberg, which provides our guests with a lot of places where to experience craft beverages (beer and spirits) in town.
“Last, but not least, what’s really new is the SFC Street Food Convention, the first B2B event for the street food business.”
