Owens-Illinois has landed honors in the Glass Packaging Institute’s 2013 Clear Choice Awards.

The program recognizes achievements in glass packaging design. Judges select winners based on creativity, structure (including label and closure) and shelf appeal.

Winning designs

A total of four O-I-created packages were chosen as winner. Tostitos Salsa’s football jar landed top honors in the food category; beverage winners include Kona Longboard Island Lager beer, Jack Daniel’s Unaged Tennessee Rye in the spirits category, and Starbucks Iced Coffee in the non-alcoholic beverage category.

According to Lynn Bragg, GPI president, “The entries for this year's Clear Choice Awards showcased a trend in the artistry and value-add that glass packaging provides to the consumer. Nothing communicates purity, quality and value to consumers like a well-designed glass package."

Clear benefits

O-I’s vice president of sales and marketing Shawn Welch, said that all of the winners in this year’s Clear Choice awards show the benefits of using glass as a packaging material.

Numerous food and beverage companies recognize that glass is the optimal packaging choice because it preserves the integrity of their products, is 100 percent and endlessly recyclable, and provides unmatched product differentiation on store shelves,” he said.

The winning products were displayed at the recent PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2013 event. For more information about the winners and the program, visit the GPI website at www.gpi.org.
