Tetra Pak one step closer to 2020 40% recycling target
Yesterday, Tetra Pak published its 2013 Sustainability Update – a report highlighting the development of the company’s social, environmental, and economical activities and initiatives in 2012.
According to the update, Tetra Pak increased the delivered number of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-stamped carton packages by 43% to 26bn last year, and extended its sourcing of bio-based polymers for the closures and caps of its packages.
It also recycled around 23% of carton packages sold in 2012 – an increase on the 21% recorded in 2011. The progress takes Tetra Pak another step closer to its target of 40% by 2020.
“The progresses we’ve made in 2012 are results of innovation and collaboration,” said Tetra Pak president and CEO, Dennis Jönsson.
“We have no illusions about the challenges we face. But we believe that by finding new ways to process, package and distribute food and to deal with waste, and by working with partners throughout the value chain, we will make a difference for the futures of the company, the industry and the society.”
