PepsiCo North America Beverages tells BeverageDaily.com that it is ‘shaken and saddened’ by the death of an employee following a fatal accident at its bottling plant in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported on Saturday that the accident occurred last Friday evening, after Memsud Djelmo was trapped in a packing unit machine.

The paper added that investigators were trying to determine what precisely happened.

Gina Anderson, PepsiCo North America Beverages, director of media relations, declined to respond to our question as to whether working procedures at the plant needed to be examined.

She sent us a company statement that read: “The entire PepsiCo family is shaken and saddened to learn that our employee Memsud Djelmo was involved in a fatal incident.

“He was a valued employee and our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. We’re continuing to work with the local authorities to determine the cause of this accident.”
