UK food manufacturer 2 Sisters Food Group is investing in an extension to its factory in Newport, south Wales and alterations to two chicken processing plants in England.

The project at the Flixton factory in Norfolk, England, began in December. The site incorporates the latest eco-friendly design features and makes products for UK retail chain Marks and Spencer.

The facility at Willand, in Devon, England, was part of the Lloyd Maunder poultry business that was bought up by 2 Sisters at the start of 2008. The latest improvements to the site began in November last year.

Brookes Avana

Finally, the factory in Wales makes chilled ready meals and was part of Premier Foods' Brookes Avana business, which 2 Sisters bought for £30m at the end of 2011. The latest investment is in line with a pledge made by 2 Sisters just over a year ago to return the business to profitability. Work began last month.

All projects are scheduled for completion by the middle of this year. The aim is to increase output for the manufacturer off the back of increased demand.

The work will be managed by Clegg Food Projects, which specialises in construction work for the food industry. The company has worked with 2 Sisters on similar projects at its two Suffolk chicken processing plants in the past couple of years.

'Improving production facilities'

“The work will involve Clegg Food Projects improving the general production facilities by altering and extending the existing factories,” said John Moxon, business development director for Clegg Food Projects.

“The schemes at all three of the sites will boost production for 2 Sisters Food Group so it can increase its output.”

2 Sisters makes a range of frozen and chilled meat products under brands and private labels. They include Fox's Biscuits, Goodfella's pizza and Holland's Pies.
