Stratum Nutrition, a Novus International Business, has launched a new ingredient combining green tea extracts and capsicum for dietary supplements, food and beverages.

The ingredient, called TeaFense, is a patented, whole food ingredient that combines the benefits of green tea and capsicum, and is marketed as supporting healthy aging.

Speaking with NutraIngredients-USA at the recent SupplyExpo event in California, Heather Thompson, marketing specialist at Stratum, said that, while the company has received inquiries about the potential weight management activity of the combination ingredient, the immediate focus is on healthy aging.

“We prefer to focus on the science that has already been done,” said Thompson, “and we have done the science on cell protection, so that’s what we’re focusing on.”

The ingredient combines a decaffeinated, full-polyphenolic spectrum green tea extract, standardized to 40 percent EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), and non-pungent capsicum, said the company.
