APV Baker has developed a new co-extrusion technology that will
enable food makers in the cereal and snack market to add value to
their products in a number of ways including a larger variety of
shapes and an even wider range of fillings.

The company's new technology adds two additional elements to the extrusion process. Firstly, the cream feed system, allows products to be pumped with filling; secondly, the pillow crimper, can cut and seal food products in different shapes.

APV Baker's Keith Graham spoke to BakeryandSnacks.com about the reasons for developing the new technology:

"We've noticed trends in the snack market such as the many subdivisions of product lines," he said. "Our machines can help manufactures with this.

"Consumers are no longer content with the same products, they want variety and indulgence, and our new technology can help producers reach these audiences.

"We want to work with food manufacturers and help them to develop new products by providing the technology."

According to APV Baker these new systems can be added easily to existing machinery instantly making production more versatile.

Graham said that adding value to existing products would increase both the producer's margins and volumes and that APV Baker would be more than happy to work with food makers to find the right solutions.

APV Baker is one of the world's leading suppliers of machinery to the bakery and confectionery industries and has an innovations centre in Peterborough that it invites potential customers to visit.

The firm, which also has a base in the United States, is owned by the Inversys group and has over 100 years of history.
