The launch marks a further step by leading drinks firms to design new formulations that will appeal to the increasingly health conscious consumer.

Healthier alternatives to carbonated drinks are slicing into fizz's market share.

According to market analyst Mintel, carbonated drinks' share of the soft drinks market has fallen six points to 45 per cent since 2000.

Pepsi's brands include the Tropicana juice range, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi, Lipton Iced Tea and Mountain Dew drinks.

Originally from Jamaica, the lightly carbonated grapefruit drink contains grapefruit Juice (6%), natural grapefruit flavour, citric acid and sodium citrate.
