Leading juice manufacturer Pampryl has become the first French producer to adopt aseptically filled multi-layer PET for its ambient-stored 100 per cent fruit juices. The new packaging, from Amcor PET Packaging Europe/Asia, also marks Pampryl's conversion from Barex.

The Amcor bottles - in 0.5- and 1.5-litre sizes - ensure a 12-month shelf life for the juices, a further development of their existing nine-month capabilities. Preforms created by Amcor are being supplied to Pampryl's plant at Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Fast development work by Amcor's Centre of Excellence in Brecht, Belgium and close liaison between the Company and its customer ensured a very swift launch process, with just six months to take the project from initial concepts to production.

Key to Pampryl's requirements was a bottle that matched the 12-month shelf life of its existing Barex bottle. In addition, the new Amcor bottles is said to also offer improved production costs and efficiencies including the replacement of around seven extrusion blow moulding machines with one Sidel SBO 10.

Even at increased blowing speeds, PET can provide excellent precision for the neck finish and good control of bottle weight. The material also offers superb clarity to maximise the on-shelf appeal of the juices. In addition, the PET bottles are fully recyclable.

"We are delighted with the service from Amcor PET Packaging," said Yves Seiller, Technical Director for Orangina-Pampryl.

"Not only have the new bottles met all our packaging and shelf-life requirements, we have been particularly impressed with the Company's high levels of service in delivering the project on time and with great reactivity and flexibility."

"The Pampryl bottles demonstrate that PET can match Barex for extended shelf life for ambient drinks," said Phil Gunning, Vice-President Sales and Marketing, Amcor PET Packaging. "At the same time they offer numerous filling and end-user benefits."
