Rexam Glass has teamed up with Ty Nant Spring Water to produce the packaging for the Welsh company's new clear glass bottle.

The new brand Tau, which takes its name from an ancient Welsh word meaning "to be silent", is presented in bottles with what Rexam describes as "understated clean lines and completed with chic minimalist black and white labels". The brand name and look have been combined to reflect the qualities of the spring water, which is drawn from its unique source on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains.

Rexam Glass produces the bottles at its Barnsley, UK, plant, adding the labelling information on-site in its decorative services operation. The labelling information is applied directly to the glass using the Rexam Glass screen printing technique. This process uses ceramic lead-free inks to create a modern look and feel, as well as excellent durability and enhanced resistance to scuffing.

Tau is available in both still and sparkling variants in both 330ml and 750 ml bottles and finished with a secondary tamper capsule normally associated with wine bottles. The brand will be initially available in stylish on-premise outlets, and has already secured listings with the prestigious UK retailers, Harrods and Selfridges.

David Relph, general manager sales & marketing at Ty Nant commented on the launch: "We felt that most of the available clear glass bottled waters were very traditional, some would say old-fashioned, designs. An opportunity therefore existed for a new and more modern approach. We have had an excellent reaction to the new TAU launch confirming our view that the minimalist design more than fulfils the need for a contemporary understated and truly stylish product."
