While bottled water consumption in Europe continues to increase yearly, new innovations in packaging are continually being developed.

For example, there has been a noticeable increase in the use of innovative bottling materials such as PET within the bottled water sector.

Companies have also invested time and money in improving other areas of the bottled water industry. As water bottles are constantly exposed to moisture and cold, damage to labelling is a common problem.

Spanish-based firm Torraspapel has recently extended its range of moisture resistant paper, especially made to provide labeling solutions for non-returnable PET and glass bottles and returnable glass bottles.

The company claims that the material offers optimum quality in cold and moist conditions and subsequent conservation in equally cold and moist environments such as refrigerators, cellars, ice chests and freezers.

The paper is coated paper with a glossy side made with a slight resistance to moisture that the manufacturer claims reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Torraspapel also believes that the material provides a degree of opacity when moist and rip and friction resistance in unfavourable moisture conditions.

The company has also extended its range of labels for returnable glass bottles. These bottles are primarily made for the restaurant sector, and are recovered after use.

They are then used again after an exhaustive washing process.

During this stage, the labels must be taken off the bottles so that the paper and ink does not dissolve and dirty the water of the washing cycle. Torraspapel has therefore increased its range of highly water resistant labels.

Torraspapel is one of southern Europe's leading paper manufacturer and distribution company. There five affiliate businesses in Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Morocco and the United States.
