Advanced Technology Industries has announced the launch of its Reseal operation, which will produce resealable beverage cans at a newly built plant in Munich.
New managing director Dr Markus Witschi had previously served as head of European product development for PepsiCo in both the United States and Germany.
Reseal's first product is the Starcan, its proprietary resealable beverage can. Dr Witschi described the Starcan as an "innovation for the industry which has been developed in order to fulfil a need for a user-friendly alternative to conventional cans. We believe the new resealable can lid not only has technical advantages, but also the optimal price-performance ratio for any producer looking for innovative packaging solutions."
Reseal will present its first commercially-produced Starcans to the beverage industry in its rollout operation commencing in June. After an initial period of significant testing, the company will commence marketing operations in tandem with continued testing, marketing the Starcan initially to the European beer industry, and later extending to the soft drink industry.
The total annual market for cans is 400 billion cans. Reseal's initial objective is to achieve a 10 per cent market share of this total annual market. The company also anticipates marketing the Starcan technology to other industries, which currently use aluminium and glass containers, including condiments and pet food.
Dr Witschi commented on the market potential of the resealable container technology: "Every product that comes to the consumer in a bottle is a potential target for our technology - from cooking oil to vinegar."
Advanced Technology Industries is a technology holding company devoted to technology identification and acquisition, research and development leading to commercialisation of innovative products.
