The Wine Institute has reported that the majority of California’s 2017 winegrape harvest was not negatively impacted by the wildfires that burned through more than 245,000 acres of the state’s wine regions last month.
The California wine & winegrape sector, along with associated businesses, makes a total economic contribution of $58bn per year to the state’s economy, according to a report. Meanwhile, $114bn is contributed annually to the US economy.

The strength of the US dollar last year meant that exports of
Californian wine declined 7 per cent in volume terms during 2002.
But value sales were up 1 per cent for the year, with sales to the
biggest market, the UK, up 12 per cent.
