Hobgoblin beer has partnered with Ardagh Group to launch its Ruby and Gold beer in a 5L format, taking advantage of growth in off-trade mini keg.

The brand’s owner, Marston’s, chose the Ardagh keg because of its ‘pull and tap’ serving system.

The design gives drinkers the same experience of a pint being poured in a pub as they consume beer at home.

Other features of the keg include a venting system, airtight resealable plug that increases shelf life, large surface area branding.

The keg is an increasingly important part of our packaging portfolio, and we are delighted to be working with Ardagh Group to take full advantage of its 5L keg with new tapping system,” said Neil Chapman, production site manager, Marston’s.

Ardagh’s range of kegs include Top Keg Plus, available in 3.1 and 5 litre, with an integrated CO2 pressure control system.

Both types of kegs can be filled on existing filling lines. Metal kegs are impermeable and provide a total barrier against light, gas and oxygen, are unbreakable and impact-resistant to keep the precious content safe.

Marston’s uses Ardagh kegs on other brands including Devil’s Backbone, Pedigree and Wainwrights.

Ardagh will be exhibiting the kegs made at its specialist keg manufacturing plant in Germany, at drinktec 2017 in Munich, from September 11-15, in Hall A1, Stand 539.
