VEGEMITE ENERGY, OR PERHAPS JUST A 'BRAIN TONIQ'?
5. Nuun Energy
With the fuss about liquid enhancers, powder-based sports supplements aren’t getting much press at the moment, but Nuun Active Hydration claims to be challenging “overly sugary and overly caffeinated” sports drinks on the market.
It promises energy metabolizing B vitamins, optimal electrolytes and “just the right amount of energy to avoid crash”, with fewer than 12 calories per tablet – these are dissolved in water.
Vishal Patel, head nutritionist at Seattle, Washington-based Nuun, said most energy drinks had excessive sugar, caffeine and vitamin content “that hinders your performance instead of aiding it”.
He said Nuun formulated the tablets to provide a continual energy boost and claims there is no other product on the market like it.
