Sprite's solid brand performance over the past year has been underpinned by leading market positions in India and China, with the Coca-Cola Company brand China's top-selling soft drink, according to Interbrand.
Although there were no new product launches in 2011, Sprite appeared to be planning a mid-calorie launch in the US, the research firm added.
But despite outstripping rivals 7UP and Sierra Mist by wowing its youthful audience with social media contests, online basketball and skateboarding games, Interbrand suggested that the brand was struggling to find a campaign that resonated with Indian consumers.
“This may spell trouble if lemon-lime based drinks continue to be the fastest-growing category among fizzy drinks in the region,” the report authors wrote.
