Coca-Cola Amatil stays silent on bottling acquisition rumours
The response follows reports in the Australian media that the drinks firm was mulling the acquisition of bottle-making facilities seven years after off-loading its bottling operations.
Company spokeswoman Sally Loane told FoodProductionDaily.com: “It is too early for CCA to make any comment at this time.”
CCA sold its bottle-making facilities in 2002 to Visy for Au$157m in a bid to focus on beverage production, sales and distribution. Reports said that improvements in manufacturing technology had prompted the company to re-examine the possibility. Analysts have suggested the speculation could be seen as a tactic by CCA to pressurise their suppliers over material costs.
PepsiCo announced Tuesday agreement on a $7.8bn deal to takeover two of its own bottling outfits, PepsiAmericas and Pepsi Bottling group. The move will streamline the company's operations and bring it annual savings of $300m by 2012, said Pepsi.
