European ingredients firm Chr Hansen has launched a new meat lab in
the US, designed to allow for the on-site trials of flavors and
seasonings in packaged meat goods.

The new facility, which became operational at the end of last year, will allow the firm to better support customers' product development programs, said Jim McCarthy vice president of Chr Hansen US. The new lab was created at the Chr Hansen Seasonings and Sweet Flavors North American headquarters in Mahwah, New Jersey, which has been supplying packaged meat manufacturers with savory flavors and seasoning blends for around seven years. The new lab was a "considerable investment" for Chr Hansen, the firm told FoodNavigator-USA.com. Production facilities were shifted around to accommodate the lab, which the firm claims will allow it to conduct screenings and trials on a small scale. Manufacturers will also be able to work closely with flavorists on site in order to better address their individual needs, said the firm. Accorfing to Chr Hansen, the meat lab will expand the company's capabilities in the savory category and effectively promote the natural cure it has recently begun offering. "With an efficient design, the professional grade commercial kitchen and lab will provide hands-on training and product demonstrations for customers," said the company.
