ExxonMobil will be showcasing its new film for in-mould labelling (IML) applications, at Labelexpo in Brussels September 24th-27th.
The company claims that the IML Label-Lyte film's unique design translates into time and cost improvements for both the label maker as well as the printer.
Used for injection moulding applications, Label-Lyte XI447 is said to offer a gloss finish after moulding and was developed for containers for food products such as butter, margarine, ice cream, processed cheese, sauces and salads, as well as a number of other retail packaging applications. ExxonMobil says the film offers good printability, with receptivity to most inks and printing technologies, together with excellent die-cutting.
Simultaneous moulding and labelling of the container offers benefits in both cost and time, as no separate investment in labelling machinery is needed and there is no post-filling labelling operation. Adhesion of the film to the container or lid is high, whilst compatibility between the polymer of the label and the container make disposal and recycling easy, the company claims.
"The special design of our white IML film ensures a smooth finish after moulding so you can say goodbye to the 'orange peel' effect you often find with other materials," says product manager, Tarquin Crouch. "What's more, since the initial design, we have made a number of improvements to the film's performance characteristics, such as vastly improved sheet dispensing properties, which render it much more attractive in terms of cost to use."
