Allied Glass Containers has recently supplied UK-based beverage manufacturer G & J Greenall with new 1-litre and 700ml ultra lightweight spirit bottles. The new packaging will be used for the firm's Selekt and Moskova ranges of vodkas.

Allied Glass believes that the new glass containers are significant innovations in the field of lightweight beverage technology. The 1-litre bottle weighs 440g, which equates to a 19 per cent reduction in glass weight from the company's comparative standard lightweight spirit bottle.

In addition, the 700ml ultra lightweight spirit bottle weighs only 330g. This provides a 15 per cent reduction in glass weight from the equivalent standard lightweight container.

"We are delighted with the new ultra lightweight bottles as not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but they also meet our production and filling requirements," said Duncan Anderson, supply chain director for G & J Greenall.

Allied Glass is the first manufacturer in the UK to produce such containers using the blow:blow method of bottle production. Both containers are manufactured in white flint and have ROPP ring finishes.

Allied Glass operations director Alan Henderson said: "Through recent advances in lightweighting technology at Allied Glass, we are able to manufacture containers which retain the authentic image of a spirit bottle, and which by being significantly lighter in weight, are able to provide the beverage industry with environmental and distribution savings."
