PET packaging for citrus juice

Constar International, a leading producer of PET containers, has collaborated with Mott's to redesign the ReaLemon and ReaLime juices from concentrate bottles.
ReaLemon is the category leader in the US with 48 per cent of the market. The new 15 oz. and 32 oz. family of PET packages includes a distinctive lemon/lime shape in the neck that identifies the product with the brand.
The design combines an asymmetric lemon shape in the neck area with an oriented shrink label and stippling on the bottle to create what the company says is a realistic looking lemon (or lime) visual.
"It is almost as if you are pouring the juice right through a lemon, captured in the neck of the bottle," said Ilene Bergenfeld, ReaLemon brand manager for Mott's. "This new look will enhance shelf impact and reinforce our brand leadership."
Bill Eaton, packaging manager for juices and ingredients at Mott's, said: "We set out to redesign the ReaLemon packaging to fit our manufacturing standard and take cost out of the package. Constar was able to do both as well as give us a new family look."
Under their supply partnership, Constar provides design and development services and all the bottle preforms. Mott's blows containers, on line, in its own production facilities.
"This ReaLemon design illustrates our design capability and our ability to develop a package from industrial rendering through modelling, performance analysis and final product," added Don Deubel, vice president for research and development at Constar.
"This integrated process produces an optimised container- lighter weight and better performance - without sacrificing imagination, and usually the first time."
Mott's began distribution of the new ReaLemon and ReaLime family design throughout the US last month.
Mott's, a subsidiary of London-based Cadbury Schweppes, is headquartered in Connecticut and produces an extensive range of drinks and mixers.
