In the US, Graham Packaging has revealed its latest PET offering in the form of a 64oz moulded bottle for Sunsweet prune juice designed to offer increased branding and better ergonomics.

Sunsweet Growers decided to redesign its 64-ounce stock bottle in an effort to make it more eye-catching on the shelf and easier for consumers to lift, hold and pour.

Graham Packaging claims that the unique design of the new bottle has led to a number of advantages. Firstly the bottle features a distinctive, customised bell with four pinch-grip indentations that makes it easy and safe to handle. The design has also meant that the Sunsweet logo has been incorporated in each of the grip indentations, assuring instant brand recognition and complementing the company's recently updated and redesigned label graphics.

Furthermore, it is also said to be stronger yet lighter than the old stock bottle because of Graham Packaging's unique proprietary Active Cage technology.

"Graham Packaging was very responsive and very innovative," said Howard Nager, Sunsweet's vice president for North American marketing. "Graham Packaging worked very closely with us to achieve this result."

Nager said the new bottle will be in use by the end of the year at Sunsweet's filling plants in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, and Yuba City, California. The bottle is being produced in an amber colour.

"We were able to deliver all of these advantages without any cost to Sunsweet," said John A. Buttermore, senior vice president and general manager of Graham Packaging's food and beverage business unit. "Sunsweet wanted their own special look and we helped them create it."

Graham Packaging Company, based in the US, is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture, and sale of customised blow-moulded plastic containers for branded food and beverage products, household and personal care products, and automotive lubricants. The company currently operates 55 plants and employs approximately 4,000 people throughout North America, Europe and Latin America.
