European Commission spokesman doesn't know his wine either

The European Commission spokesman Roger Waite seems to have a rather high opinion of himself, advising Mr Thompson of what is in his best interests "if he is a winemaker".

But Mr Waite should surely know that you can't make Chablis in Croydon because Chablis is a geographic term, not a grape. You could, of course, make a crisp, dry, Chardonnay-based wine in Croydon (unlikely, but you gather my point).

A peculiar comment from someone meant to know a bit about agriculture.
