Linx Printing Technologies, whose customers include drinks manufacturer Fruitapeel, The Gourmet Nut Company and Thorntons chocolate, claims to be ‘breaking new ground’ by launching a portable entry-level CIJ (Continuous Ink Jet) printer.

The transportable Linx 10 can deliver two line codes and will appeal to smaller businesses that need to code products for the first time.

John Tierney, marketing director, Linx Printing Technologies’, said Linx 10 can be used as a back-up machine for CIJ users, and can benefit packing lines where space is an issue.

He said the device weighs 11kg and has been launched in the UK, and will be launched globally at Pack Expo in Chicago, November 6-9.

This is a first for us in terms of Continuous Ink Jet printing. We believe the Linx 10 truly offers something new to the market,” he said.

The launch comes following in depth voice of the customer (VOC) research. It was only launched this week but there is already strong interest.

We have incorporated some advanced technology into a very small and light coder that is easy to install, set up, operate and maintain, while delivering a good quality of code.”

The Linx 10 features a carry handle and printhead dock and only needs to be cleaned once a month with a clean cartridge system.

Manual coding restricts SME growth

Tierney said the technology is ideal for SMEs where the potential for business growth is hampered by the use of less flexible, non-digital coding methods such as print and apply labeling, stamping or hand applied labels.

Manual coding methods can restrict a business’s ability to increase production rates to meet demand, while many retail customers may require higher quality codes or more detailed information, which must be contained within a small space,” he added.

The device comes with color touch screen with image-based code selection to reduce coding errors and speed up changeovers and it has an integrated automatic line speed sensor.

The line speed sensor assesses the speed of a line or conveyor and ensures codes are printed in the right place at the right time, regardless of the line speed.

Linx anticipates applications for the new coder will include specialist and artisan producers in markets such as food and drink, toiletries and herbal remedies who are seeking their first coder, as well as contract packers who need the portability and flexibility of an easy to move and set up printer.
