In this exclusive gallery, BeverageDaily.com explores the Top 5 Chinese alcohol brands by value, which sees the nation’s movers ‘n’ shakers reaching out to the world with baijiu, beer and wine.
Data and insights here are taken from Millward Brown’s new report: Brandz Top 50: Most Valuable Chinese Brand 2013, where the research firm’s analysts noted the rising importance of lower-tier cities beyond Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, with some brands carving out a niche here.
“[But] consumers in the lower-tier cities are generally more practical, and tend to choose value over bling,” the analysts said, signaling perhaps that higher margins are as yet harder to come by.
Millward Brown noted the first overall fall in brand value for the Top 50 brands (-1.6% to US $320.2bn) in the three years it has been running these reports, mainly due to pressure on revenue and profits.
However, the three categories that did appreciate in value terms were technology (+35%), traditional Chinese liquor baijiu (+19%) and beer (+17%). Let’s take a closer look at the beverage pacesetters…
