Quantum Global African Infrastructure, Embasa and Sun Ocean Holdings have been given the green light to set up a beverage plant in Angola, Africa.

The company, called Grupo Sun Ocean Lda, has received approval from the Technical Unit for Private Investment (UTIP) in Angola.

The project will require an investment of more than $50m, the Angolan press reported, and will be built in Luanda.

According to Ventures Africa, the plant will specialize in the production and packaging of some 80 million liters of juice, wine and drinking water per year, employing up to 400 people.

UTIP took into consideration the socio-economic justification of the project within the Angolan context, in particular, for the beverage sector in the country.

"We are excited to invest in a project that will significantly contribute to the strengthening of the beverage sector and the diversification of the Angolan economy," said Martin Bachman, CEO, Quantum Global Group.

Angola is a country that has shown significant progress in increasing wealth, macroeconomic stability and economic diversification in recent years.

The beverage sector is one of the areas in which the Angolan government has focused on strengthening its economic diversification.

As such, the country has announced several plant projects in recent years, for the production of mineral water or beer.

Domestic brewery production

For example, Refriango entered the national beer market with the launch of Tigra beer last year with a production plant in Kikuxi, municipal of Viana.

Refriango is an Angolan company that has been on the market for 11 years with brands including Blue, Nutry juices and the water brand Pura amongst others.

Tigra has joined the market alongside other national beer brands like Bela, Cuca, Eka, N’gola, Nocal and Sambila.

During a recent visit to evaluate the functioning of beverage industries, Laura Monteiro, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, the Government of the Republic of Angola, welcomed the role of domestic brewery production in import substitution.

At present, Luanda is considering ways and means to better support this sector to encourage greater local production of raw materials.

Grupo Sun Ocean Lda. will work to develop local juice, water and wine production and packaging capacity in Angola, initially serving the Luanda market and other nearby provinces.

It is well positioned to contribute to the stability and ongoing development of the country’s drink and beverage sector as well as the creation of jobs and supply chains.

Embasa (the Equatorial Guinea company Envasadora de Bata) operates in the beverage sector, both in production and in the construction and management of factories.
