DISPATCHES FROM ANUGA FOODTEC 2012

Sven Bodell, president, Food Radar Systems, told Ben Bouckley that the firm's unique microwave technology was the only show in town to detect previously invisible foreign bodies in pumpable foods, and that the system might also appeal to producers of beverages with pulp or other pieces in.

During this exclusive interview shot at Anuga FoodTec 2012, Bodell (pictured) said: "We have got something unique here now, and are able to detect foreign bodies that were invisible before: plastic, wood, fruit stones, some organic rejects (low density materials.

"We use a microwave technology to do this - detect the piece and reject it, using variations of speed - a high speed or a low speed, it doesn't really matter."

Fruit manufacturers making jams with fruit pieces, tomato paste or soup, even beverage products with pulp or other pieces could all benefit, although meat products were not a specific focus for Swedish firm Food Radar Systems right now, Bodell added.
