Unilever has reported strong end of year sales on the back of a Q4 advertising drive, with particularly good progress in reestablishing volume growth in Western Europe.
The consumer goods giant reported total turnover for the full year of €39.8bn, and operating profit of €5bn.
The company has increased advertising and promotional expenditure increased by 80bps, described by CEO Paul Polman as a “step change”.
However not all categories reported flying growth. Savoury, dressings and spreads saw a 0.1 decrease in sales in the full year, to €13.3bn. In ice cream and beverages, on the other hand, sales were up 4 per cent to 7.6bn. Star brands were Lipton team and Magnum ice cream.
