Two Heineken-owned British pubs are offering a specially named beer, ‘Come What May’, to toast the new prime minister, Theresa May.

The Crown and The Old Swan Uppers in Cookham, in the PM’s Maidenhead constituency, started pulling pints of the beer ahead of May’s first Prime Minister’s Questions session yesterday.

“Our local MP is now the PM, so of course we’ll be raising a pint,” said Katie Roberts-Smith, licensee of The Old Swan Uppers.

Lawson Mountstevens, MD of Star Pubs and Bars (Heineken’s leased pub business, which is made up of around 1,100 pubs in the UK) said pubs are at the heart of local communities, and he hopes residents – and even the PM herself – will come and enjoy a pint.

“We know Theresa May will be very busy over the coming weeks, but hopefully she’ll still have time for an occasional visit to support her local pubs,” he said.

Theresa May became the UK’s Prime Minister on July 13.

Former Prime Minister David Cameron resigned following Britain’s decision to leave the EU in a referendum last month.
