Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has launched a milk-based energy drink that doesn't rely on caffeine or other stimulants.

Kansas City-based DFA, America's largest dairy, unveiled its three flavor Live Real Farms Energy Drink range earlier this month.

Live Real Farms Energy Drink - available in Berry Berry, Peach Mango and Strawberry Banana variations - is made with lactose-free skim milk, fruit juice, whey protein isolate (WPI), added vitamins and green tea extract.

Each 11oz (325ml) carton of fat-free Live Real Farms Energy Drink contains 12g of protein and just 180 calories.

The Live Real Farms range is currently available in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Arizona ahead of a wider launch.

Unlike traditional energy drink products, the energy in Live Real Farms is not derived from caffeine.

“DFA’s Live Real Farms Energy Drinks derive energy from high levels of carbohydrates, not caffeine like many other energy drinks," a DFA spokesperson told DairyReporter.

"Additionally, we have 100% vitamin B12 and green tea extract," the spokesperson added.

In a statement, DFA said it is "reimagining dairy" with Live Real Farms, which it branded "a wholesome and nutritious alternative to other energy drinks."

“DFA is excited to launch a new alternative to other energy drinks, as Live Real Farms Energy Drink is made from quality ingredients that people know and trust,” said Jeff Hunt, vice president of marketing and sales, Live Real Farms.

“We are proud to offer an energy drink people can trust and feel good about drinking," Hunt added.
