Royal Crown Cola International (RCCI) will launch its water-based liquid enhancers at Anuga 2013 amid claims beverage distributors can further capitalize on the growing bottled water market.

The product is seen as a healthful alternative to powdered drink mixes and does not add any calories to a beverage, providing an option for health-conscious consumers who put a premium on flavor.

A feature of liquid enhancers is being able to adjust the sweetness and flavor intensity of a drink; similar to adding sugar, milk or cream to coffee.

Richard Nachreiner, director, International Product Development, RCCI, said theliquid enhancers are typically designed to deliver 2 milliliters of flavoring per 500ml of purified water.

'Appropriate does of flavor'

This dosage delivers what we consider to be the appropriate dose of flavor, sweetener, color and acid to create a beverage,” he said.

"Since individual flavor taste can vary from one consumer to another, the beauty of the LE delivery system is that the consumer can dose the water with more or less volume of the liquid enhancer to satisfy his or her individual taste."

Moshy Cohen, VP marketing, RCCI, added consumer preferences keep evolving with their fast-paced, contemporary lifestyles so it wants to offer bottlers and distributors a range of liquid enhancers with a variety of functions and flavors.

Sugar is bad for health

With today’s soaring sugar prices, as well as the public perception that large quantities of sugar are bad for your health and lead to the onset of obesity and other health issues, it has become more common to see beverage products on the market that are formulated with blends of nutritive and non-nutritive sweeteners,” said Nachreiner.

The advantage of formulating such products is calorie reduction as well as lower sweetener costs. With the various sweetener options available today, it is very easy to reduce sugar content by 20% to 30% and retain a sweetness profile that is indistinguishable from a full sugar product.”

Offering individualized flavor, nutritional benefits and convenient portability, liquid enhancers allow consumers to adjust the sweetness and flavor of their beverage.

RCCI will showcase its portfolio of water-based liquid enhancers from October 5-9, at Anuga 2013 in Cologne, Germany.
