Germany’s appetite for beer continues to wane as concerns grow over the long-term prospects for brewers in the country, say news reports.

The country’s national brewing association says that beer consumption in 2008 was found to have fallen on a per person basis by 2.2 litres compared to the same period the previous year, reports UK-based newspaper the Daily Telegraph.

The figures mark the second consecutive annual fall in beer demand for a country strongly associated with consumption of ale. The ongoing economic downturn was said to have been a key factor in last year’s falls, said the report.
