Sainsbury’s is a one of Diageo’s major customers but that has not stopped the drinks company from taking legal action against the retailer. The dispute concerns the launch of Pitcher’s, which like Pimm’s is an alcoholic drink that is mixed with lemonade and fruit.
Diageo claims the drink, launched in April last year, infringes its intellectual property rights. Sainsbury’s insists that people are savvy enough to know exactly what they’re buying, and vowed to “vigorously defend” the claims.
