Mexico’s competition regulator has opened an investigation into allegations that leading soft drink groups like the Coca-Cola Company may have engaged in unfair practises in the country, according to news reports.

Coca-Cola and national drink maker Femsa are reportedly to be the focus of the investigation by watchdog Cofeco, amidst claims that discounts may have been offered to retailers that chose not to stock rival beverage brands, reports Reuters.

The investigation would be the second of its kind in the country over the last decade following on from a Cofeco ruling back in 2007 that fined 15 bottlers of Coca-Cola products in Mexico for allegedly trying to distort trade, according to the report.
